How to check the Parallels application version compatibility

Modified on Thu, 18 Sep at 4:02 PM

The TradeWindow Freight Platform uses a third-party service called Parallels, which provides the virtual desktop environment that enables users to access and run the Freight Platform securely. Parallels application essentially acts as the “bridge” between your local machine and our hosted platform, and it is required for key features such as the drag-and-drop function.

1. Parallels Compatibility

The majority of login and stability issues reported by clients are directly linked to Parallels configuration and updates.

We require all clients to use WVD version 1.2.3213 (stable release) for full compatibility.

Most recent incidents were caused by clients running outdated Parallels 19 versions or unsupported WVD builds.

Check the version compatibility:

From Parallels client connection screen, click on Tools, and then on Settings.

From Settings choose Logging tab, and then click on View.

From Client log, scroll down to Program Data / Parallels, and check that the correct version is used:

WVD version 1.2.3213

From the setting, under Update tab, make sure that the automatic update at startup is not ticked.

If is ticked, make sure that you untick that checkbox.

Do not enable auto-updates in Parallels. If auto-updates are enabled, Parallels may upgrade to newer releases (e.g. Version 20.2.26020), which introduce incompatible WVD versions (e.g. 1.2.6424.0) and can cause login failures and outages.

2. Workarounds and Tools Provided

  • If you encounter issues, please provide us with your client.log file. This helps us quickly identify the root cause.
  • We have developed a utility called TW Complete Installer (Cleaner/Installer), which can reset and resolve the majority of Parallels-related issues.

Or another option:

  • Disable Parallels (Optional): For clients who prefer stability over features, Parallels can be disabled entirely. This resolves compatibility issues; however, it will also remove the drag-and-drop functionality from the Freight Platform.
